Clery Geography

Baylor's main campus Clery geography can be reviewed at the link provided below:

Clery geography maps are a useful tool for identifying buildings and property that make up Baylor's Clery Act geography, as well as illustrating to students, faculty, staff, and visitors where reported incidents occurred. Crimes occurring in these locations are published within Baylor's Annual Fire Safety and Security Report.

Baylor is also required to publish all crime that occurs in the surrounding extended patrol jurisdiction.

Baylor Extended Patrol Jurisdiction

Under the Clery Act, “campus”, “on campus residential” “non-campus”, and “public property” are defined as:

  • Campus - Any building or property owned or controlled by an institution within the same reasonably contiguous geographic area and used by the institution in direct support of, or in a manner related to, the institution's educational purposes, including residence halls.
  • On Campus Residential - Any student housing facility that is owned or controlled by the institution, or is located on property that is owned or controlled by the institution, and is within the reasonably contiguous geographic area that makes up campus.”
  • Non-campus building or property - (1) Any building or property owned or controlled by a student organization that is officially recognized by the institution; or (2) Any building or property owned or controlled by an institution that is used in direct support of, or in relation to, the institution's educational purposes, is frequently used by students, and is not within the same reasonably contiguous geographic area of the institution.
  • Public property - All public property, including thoroughfares, streets, sidewalks, and parking facilities, that is within the campus, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

Baylor also has separate campuses in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Washington D.C., and New York. The criteria for a separate campus is as follows:

  • Your institution owns or controls the site;
  • It is not reasonably contiguous with the main campus;
  • It has an organized program of study; and
  • There is at least one administrative person on site acting in an administrative capacity.

All Clery defined crimes occurring within these boundaries are evaluated for issuance of Timely Warnings, safety notices, Daily Crime and Fire Log publication and submission of statistical information into the Baylor Annual Fire Safety and Security Report.

Per the Clery Act, Baylor is not required to report crime statistics, issue Timely Warnings, or place on the Daily Crime and Fire Log, crimes which occur on private property (e.g., not owned or controlled by Baylor), within the listed boundaries. A list of all Clery geographies is regularly maintained by the Clery Compliance Office.
